Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

In-Person Training for Human Resource Personnel of the Tobago House of Assembly.

Led by the Benefits & Industrial Relations Management Division.

The Benefits and Industrial Relations Management Division (BIRMD) of the Personnel Department conducted an in-person training session for Human Resource personnel of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) on March 16, 2026, at Shaw Park, Tobago.

This engagement stemmed from a proposal advanced by the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) at a Tripartite Meeting convened in 2024 with the Ministry of Education and the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA), which identified the need for training on the Classification of Extended Sick Leave (ESL) for teachers in Tobago.

During subsequent discussions, the THA also requested additional training on matters affecting daily-rated workers, in accordance with the relevant Collective Agreement. It was therefore agreed that both areas would be addressed within a single training session.

Accordingly, the March 16, 2026 in-person session covered the following key areas:

Classification of Extended Sick Leave for Teachers

Key provisions of the Collective Agreement for Daily-Rated Workers of the THA

Administration of the UNIMED Group Health Plan for eligible members, including:

(a) Civil and Teaching Services (monthly-paid officers); and

(b) Daily-Rated Workers in Central Government

Notably, the training was highly interactive, and participant feedback indicated that the presentations were informative, relevant, and well received.
